What is a SAC?

What is a SAC?

I'm so glad you asked! A Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) is an in-building resource for students, staff, and parents for non-academic related issues that hinder one's ability to succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Issues addressed may include, but are not limited to, substance use, depression, anxiety, and other mental health related concerns. Collaboration with staff, students, parents, and community organizations is common.

All services provided by a SAC are confidential, with the exception of the following instances:

  • A student wants to hurt themselves
  • A student wants to hurt someone else
  • Someone is hurting a student
  • The student gives the SAC permission to share information with designated individuals

Services include individual and group counseling, as well as classroom lessons.

SAC services are voluntary unless a student is under an administrative contract.
