Ambassadors Club
The Steinert Student Ambassadors (SSA) club is open to all students in grades 9-12 that demonstrates Spartan PRIDE leadership . This club is designed to help new and transitioning students from another country that don't speak English, such as incoming freshman and new students from other districts. Our Ambassadors help ease the transition of new students by guiding them around the school and familiarizing them with the High School's daily schedule. Ambassadors also encourage new students to get involved in both sports and co-curricular clubs/activities. Steinert Student Ambassadors are selected to promote school activities and represent the school at special events on campus and in the community.
Anime/Manga Club
This is the art of Japanese cartooning. Students will partake in this cultural experience expressing ideas through the outlet of cartooning.
Steinert High School’s athletic program is one of the finest in the state. Supportive parent booster clubs, broad offerings of sports, high levels of competitions and a comprehensive offering of athletic programs have allowed us to experience numerous conference, county, and state championships. Our facilities are continually upgraded to keep pace with the needs of our students and community. Please see a description of each sport below. Baking Club
If you enjoy baking this is the club for you! We help with community projects throughout the school year by baking desserts and snacks. There are some meetings where we bake for fun and share recipes as well. Come to a meeting and see what fun we have.
We are proud of the rich history of Steinert Baseball. The Spartans have won a total of 7 New Jersey State Titles, 14 Central Jersey titles, 25 CVC and 16 Mercer County Tournament titles. Steinert Baseball has been crowned state champions in 1978, 1992, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2006. The 1992 team set the Mercer County win mark with a 31-1 record. The 1999 and 2000 teams finished as the top team in New Jersey. Additionally, the 2007 team won the Central Jersey, MCT, and CVC Titles following the 2006 State title team. The 2009, 2012, and 2016 teams all were Mercer County Tournament champions and all finished with 24 or more wins. In April 2012, Steinert High School baseball surpassed the 1,000 win mark dating back to the schools first team in 1959. As of 2019, the win total is over 1,100.
Basketball (Girls)
The girls basketball program has three level of competition. Approximately 40-50 girls tryout for the Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams each year. All three levels have been very successful since the program began in 1973. The Varsity team has won numerous CVC titles and three county championships during this period. Tryouts are the three dayes before Thanksgiving and the season runs through the beginning of March. Practices are six days a week, two hours a day. Book Club/Page Turners
Steinert's book club is open to all Steinert students, faculty, and staff. We meet once per month, after school, in the library to share snacks and reading recommendations. There is no assigned reading for the group. Members come to talk about their favorite books and authors, and to share what they are currently reading. For meeting dates, listen to the morning announcements, or see flyers posted around the school.
Cheerleading
The Steinert Spartan cheerleading squad consists of three teams, the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity team. During the fall season the cheerleaders cheer at girls and boys soccer and football games. The three big performances during this season are cheering at the homecoming game, the Thanksgiving day game, and putting together a cheer and dance for our annual pep rally. During the winter season the cheerleaders cheer for basketball.
DECA
This is an association of Marketing Students provides students with real-life experience in marketing, merchandising, and management. Students develop leadership skills, vocational understanding, social intelligence and civic consciousness. DECA students compete in regional and state competitive events in the areas of marketing, financial services, travel and tourism and retail merchandising. To become a DECA member you must be enrolled in a marketing class or declare a career objective in the field.
French Club
This club welcomes all students with “joie de vivre” and who are fascinated by French culture. We decorate the school for National French Week in the fall and for World Language Week in the spring. We meet once a month to cook: we prepare great French treats like fondant au chocolat (chocolate molten lava cake), crêpes and chicken breast cooked in a bechamel sauce. Bienvenus!
GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance)
The purpose of the Gay-Straight Alliance is to create an official space for students to discuss LGBTQ+ issues has been proven to be beneficial to all students in terms of safety and acceptance. Our GSA uses group meetings to discuss LGBTQ+ issues with its members in order to achieve this. Steinert’s GSA meets regularly as a group to discuss topics related to the LGBTQ+ experience. Topics include but are not limited to: Bullying and harassment in and out of school and how to deal with it, Current events that are affecting the LGBTQ+ community, and Role Models that are LGBTQ+. Some meetings have a more informational purpose, with the goal of informing members on subjects such as LGBTQ+ history, the role LGBTQ+ people of color have played in the LGBTQ+ movements past, and current activism. Guest speakers may be incorporated in order to give an older perspective to these topics. This club is for any student (not just those taking German) who is interested in the German language and culture. We try to meet monthly after school and plan events. in November, we attend the Schlachtfest at the Donauschwaben in Yardville with Nottingham and West, we do a fondue party and we are always looking for new ideas and new members!
German Honor Society (Delta Epsilon Phi)
An organization designed to honor outstanding students in the German Language, Delta Epsilon Phi was established in 1996. After having completed three semesters of German, potential members are required to have a GPA of 3.6 in German and 3.0 in all other classes, induction of new members will be in the spring after grades have been reported. The induction ceremony is held with the other languages in a ceremony in the evening. Membership in the organization is a way to reward students who have excelled in German with extra-curricular activities and scholarship opportunities.
Golf
Hamilton High School East and the District Board of Education provides interscholastic competition in golf for the spring athletic season. Currently, the district has a co-ed program on the varsity level only. Through the work of the coaches of Mercer County, a Junior Varsity schedule is being developed on a voluntary basis. All athletes must have a school physical and meet educational requirements of the state to participate in Golf. The participants need to have their own golf clubs. Transportation is provided to Steinert’s home golf course, Miry Run Gold Course, for practice and matches, along with golf balls for match play. Both boys and girls are welcomed to compete in golf. Girl athletes are encouraged to participate because of the possibility of girls’ competition developed by the New Jersey Scholastic Athletic Association in the future. The golf team continues to gain the respect of the coaches not only because of the teams ability to play the game but the sportsmanship and golf etiquette displayed by the team members. If an interest in golf is your pleasure you are welcomed to try out for this exciting team.
Ice Hockey
This program competes on the Varsity level in the Colonial Valley Conference. The program also plays various other schools outside of the conference. The program is open to all students in grades 9 through 12.
Innovation Lab / 3D@HTSD
Steinert's Innovation Lab uses technology, including 3D printing and design, to solve real world problems. Past service learning projects include printing 3D prosthetic hands for children and a local community member. Students work together at meetings and independently to complete projects. See Ms. Rogers in the library for more information.
Steinert's Italian Club celebrates Italian heritage and traditions during the year, as well as offering opportunities for its members to participate in community service projects, with various activities and events. The traditional "Cena della Vigilia" is celebrated in December with a dinner prepared by the students for their parents. In May, the Club hosts a Spring Dinner, with food prepared by the students. This dinner is open to the public and the money collected the past three years has been donated to the Italian earthquake victims of Amatrice. The club also sponsors a Bocce tournament in the spring.
The Italian Honor Society is open to students in Italian III or IV with a GPA of 3.35 or higher who also participate in our various activities and events as well as expressing an interest in the culture and tradition of Italy.
Jazz
The Steinert Jazz Program is an extra-curricular activity for the instrumental students of the music program. Under the direction of John Ketterer, Steinert's Jazz Program consists of the jazz band and when possible a second full group called the jazz ensemble. The primary focus of these ensembles is the study of various forms of jazz literature, jazz education, jazz improvisation, and jazz theory. Each ensemble rehearses once week for three hours (usually 6:00-9:00) from October through May. The bands then compete throughout New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania at local, state, and regional jazz festivals. In addition, Steinert hosts its own Jazz Festival every March.
Membership to the program is by audition only. Auditions are held in the Spring of each school year
Lights and Sound Crew (School Play)
Lights and Sound Crew is a small group of students who perform the technical aspects of the school play. Our members must be focussed and detail-oriented. Our season can run from late November to late February. In addition to the school play, you will sometimes be asked to help run lights and sound for other school events. If you are interested in joining, please listen for the morning announcements for information about due dates for applications.
Math Team
The Steinert High School Math Team competes ten times a year in both the DVML (Delaware Valley Math League) and the CVCML (Colonial Valley Conference Math League). At each math competition, team members challenge their math prowess by taking a 10 question test which lasts for 1 hour. The sum of the top 3 scores of our team members constitutes our team’s score. The highest team score takes possession of the coveted league trophy until the next meet where they must defend their right to keep the trophy. Topics covered in the Math Competition include topics from Algebra, Geometry and Pre-Calculus. Team membership is open to any student interested in mathematics and having the desire to test and expand the limits of their understanding. Each meet concludes with the opportunity to socialize with friends over treats provided by the school hosting the meet.
Marching Unit
The Steinert Marching Unit is comprised of student members of the Band Program and members of the color guard. Membership in the band is open to all Steinert students who play a band instrument and would like to participate in the ensemble. Membership to the color guard is on a volunteer basis, and is selected through auditions occurring in the spring prior to the upcoming season. The Marching Unit performs at all Steinert varsity football games, in addition to selected Marching Band competitions throughout the region. In the past, these performances have included competitions at Hamilton West, Robbinsville, Hopewell Valley, Burlington City as well as a performances at the US Bands NJ State Championships, the Yamaha Cup held at MetLife Stadium and Steinert's own "Music in Motion." In addition, the Marching Unit takes a bi-annual five-day trip to Florida to fulfill selection as participants in Walt Disney World’s Magic Music Days. The Unit has performed in the Magic Kingdom Parade while in Disney World. The Marching Unit’s staff consists of Band Directors Mrs. Stephanie Giunta and Mr. John Ketterer, Miss Danielle Rafferty ,color guard advisor; Miss Carolyn Anzuini, Weapons Instructor; and Mr. Joseph Ketterer, percussion instructor. The Steinert Marching Unit Parent's Association (SMUPA) is a very active and devoted parental group that supports the Marching Unit. Monthly parent meetings are held every second Monday of the month at 8 pm in the school cafeteria. Membership is open to all parents/guardians of student members.
Mock Trial is an extracurricular program in which students participate in rehearsed trials to learn new skills and compete with each other. At some law schools, the term trial advocacy is used for the program. Various organizations, such as state bar associations, sponsor Mock Trial/trial advocacy competitions for middle school students, high school students, college students, and law students. Steinert competes in the Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competiton which is sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation.
Mosaic's mission is to broaden awareness of the differences and similarities that exist among the students of SHS. Our past activities include: National Day of Silence, YWCA's Stand Up Against Racism, Princeton Prize for Race Relations, KONY 2012. New members are always welcome. NAHS criteria and applications available in September. Students must reapply each year. Two Chairman will be elected at the October meeting. NAHS meets every second Tuesday, typically 2:40-3:10 p.m. Service hours may be completed at student convenience. Sign up for the Remind app and check Mrs. Singleton’s website for any changes in meeting dates & times. (NAHS Remind: text "b1smart" to 81010) Students become members of a distinguished group of 58,000+ outstanding art students and gain peer recognition, leadership growth opportunities, college and career preparation, and an unmatched sense of camaraderie. Students are also eligible to apply for the Rising Stars Secondary Recognition Program Award (Juniors and Seniors only); the Charles M. Robertson Memorial Scholarship and scholarships to Columbus College of Art and Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, and The Art Institute (Seniors only). Students have the opportunity to be published in NAHS News (the semi-annual, full-color digital publication of the NAHS program). Artwork submitted for inclusion is often used in other NAEA publications. Students are eligible to submit artwork for possible inclusion in the annual NAHS/NJAHS Juried Exhibition held at the NAEA Studio & Gallery. Students complete 30 service hours and earn a NAHS pin yearly and special cordons to wear at graduation.
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is an organization intended to recognize outstanding students for their scholarship, leadership, service, and character. To be selected for admission at the end of sophomore year, students must have a cumulative grade average of 3.75. Eligible students are selected for membership by a faculty council which reviews student records, activities and service to Steinert HS and the community. After being inducted into the society, members are encouraged to participate in service activities sponsored by the NHS.

Parallax
Parallax is Steinert's literary magazine. Its purpose is to showcase talent in art, poetry, prose and photography. It is published twice a year by students.
Photography
This club consists of 12 th graders who are currently taking Photo Technology or have taken the course in their junior year. The club serves as a mentoring program where students with “the knowledge” help those who are getting the “knowledge”. The club meets after school where black and write negative and prints are developed. Field trips to locations providing good photographic subjects are explored.
Ping Pong Club
The Ping Pong Club is open to all students interested in playing ping pong. Tournaments are usually held after school once a month in the cafeteria. Dues are collected and used for snacks.
Public Speaking/Debate Team
The Public Speaking/Debate Team is held in the fall and travels to compete against 7 other CVC debate teams. For more information, please see Dr. Castaldo.

School Show
The school show is held every year in February. The show is open to all grade levels providing an experience in which students can develop skills in performance, dance, vocal and instrumental music, and back stage support technology. Tryouts and crew sign ups are held in the late fall. Rehearsals and “tech work” occur after school, evenings, and selected Saturdays and holidays.
Science National Honor Society
The Science National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes science-related scholarship and promotes service in science-related activities. Juniors and Seniors are eligible to be inducted in May after meeting certain academic requirements. These include the the successful completion of an AP Science course as well as achieving points for other science activities.
The Select Choir is the premiere vocal performance ensemble at Steinert. Membership is by audition only. Members must take Select Choir as a class. This ensemble represents Steinert for every outside vocal endeavor. This year we will sing for several local groups, and provide entertainment for PTA functions, Fashion Shows, and Board of Education functions. This choir is an integral part of two annual concerts. Incoming freshmen must get a written endorsement from the eight grade vocal instructor and arrange for an audition with Ms. Curtin.
Soccer (Boys)
The boys soccer program competes at all three levels; Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman. We continue to build a championship program while building championship character. We are committed to helping our athletes become the best they can by developing athletic and life skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. Some of these skills include responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, self-respect, and pride. The athletes will represent our program, school, and community in an exemplary fashion at all times.
The Softball program has three levels of competition. All three levels have been very successful over the past decade. The Varsity team has won numerous CVC, MCT, and State titles during this period. The season begins the first week of March and runs to the beginning of June. Practices are six days a week, two hours a day. For more information see Mrs. Melkers website.
Club Espanol is open to any student interested in exploring Hispanic culture and enhancing his/her language skills . While it is not required for members to be currently enrolled in a Spanish course, it is recommended that members have completed at least one year of course study. There is a general membership fee of $5. Special events may require an additional fee, Please visit our website for more information.
Spanish National Honor Society
The Spanish National Honor Society will hold meetings monthly (announcements will be made during the morning announcements). Students must be enrolled in Spanish 4 or AP Spanish to be considered for first year membership [To be eligible : 3.5 or higher for levels of Spanish 1-3 (or equivalent if "tested in") and good standing in Spanish 4]. Members will be required to either help tutor a student in levels 1-3 /help at induction ceremony. First year member dues are $10 and second year member dues are $5. Spartan Songwriters & Storytellers (Writing Club)
For those who write the following: Poetry, Spoken Word, Song Lyrics, Fan Fiction, and Short Stories. Mission of the club: In a safe and judgement-free environment, students will develop their craft and love of storytelling and express themselves through writing. Students will write and share original lyrics, poems, and/or stories. Meetings will be on Tuesdays this year after school (2:35 - 3:15) in B202. The Spartan Sentinel
The Spartan Sentinel, Steinert High School’s newspaper, gives students an opportunity to write and share editorials, letters to the editors, feature articles, journalistic stories, interviews, reviews, and sports articles. The newspaper’s twelve page issues are distributed four times a year.
Step Team
The Step Team was started by a group of enthusiastic young women who wanted to bring the unique style of rhythm and dance to Steinert. Stepping has its roots in African-American sororities and fraternities, and uses an energetic combination of clapping and stomping to create mesmerizing rhythms and beats. We perform at school functions and meet weekly to practice our routines. No experience is necessary to join, but a background in dance or performance is helpful.
Student Government Association (SGA)
Steinert's Student Government Association (SGA) is an evolving club that gives students an opportunity to take an active role in their high school community. Our primary goal is to increase school spirit and promote a positive high school environment. Some activities that the SGA sponsors or participates in are: Officer elections, Homecoming Weekend, Spirit Week, the Pep Rally, Breakfast with Santa, which is open to the children of the community, The Talent Show, Mr. SHS, as well as various student proposed events and activities throughout the year. Students interested in becoming a member of Student Government can fill out an application located on Mrs. Caruso's website.
The Boys & Girls Swim Team is a competitive sport where athletes compete at the varsity level. Competitive experience is recommended for participation, but certainly not required. Tryouts for the team are usually held during the second week of November, after teacher's convention. The season runs from November until February. Prospective members must have a determination to work hard and a dedication to our team. Morale is maintained at a high level through incentives, pasta parties, our annual banquet, and other activities. Practices are daily from 3pm until 5pm & Saturday mornings. Meets are usually Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Tennis (Varsity Boys/Girls)
This team is open to all interested boys and girls in grades 9-12 who have some prior tennis experience. Tennis experience need not be extensive or competitive but would include knowing the basic strokes and how to score.
The NJISAA rules outline the format for establishing varsity positions using a ladder format. These positions include three singles players, and two teams of doubles. In addition, most CVC teams carry an additional roster of 12-15 players who have some opportunity to play at a non-varsity level.
The Girls’ Tennis season begins in late August and continues through October 31 st. The Boys’ Tennis season begins in mid-March and continues through May 31 st. All candidates must pass a physical and be academically eligible.
Track Program
The Track program at Steinert begins in the fall with Cross-Country. Practice begins in the summer, while the competitive season runs from mid-September until early November. Participants will train in distance running, and race a 3.1 mile course. Cross-Country team work, dedication, and a love of running. This sport will unlock potential for personal growth.
During the spring, track, includes a wider range of events including weights, sprints, hurdles, and distances. This team is, and should continue to be one of the top in the area. The season begins in early March and runs until early June.
Volunteer Internship Program (VIP)
VIP provides actual experience through volunteer work in business, professional, social, and government agencies. The course is open to seniors who would like some realistic experience in a potential career. The program is designed to give students firsthand knowledge in a career they are contemplating pursing after graduation.
The student reports to his/her selected agency according to a prescribed time schedule, five days a week. On selected Fridays, the student reports for a building level or district seminar. Daily logs, reports, and a project or research paper are required. Students provide their own transportation.
Pupils are scheduled individually. Students attend school for three or more classes before reporting to the VIP assignment. Students are assigned through a selection process and teacher recommendation.
If you are looking for a sport in which size and experience do not determine your ability to compete, Spartan wrestling could be for you. Weight classes range from 93 pounds up to 285 pounds, so you are never put at a disadvantage no matter how big or small you are. Wrestlers, particularly freshmen) are encouraged to eat right, work hard and wrestle their natural weight. Every wrestler is paired in both practice and matches with others in a comparable weight class, so you begin with a level playing field.
No experience is necessary! Some of our freshman come to us with experience in Hamilton’s fine PAL program, but the majority have no experience at all. We can teach you all you need to know, so even if you are just looking for something to do until spring, remember: wrestling is a great conditioning sport that teaches you discipline and intensity and rewards hard work no matter what your athletic ability.
Steinert wrestling has three levels of competition, so everyone will wrestle people of similar size and skill level. Our freshman, JV and Varsity teams compete in a variety of tournament and dual-match formats assuring competition that will be challenging but not overwhelming.
The season begins on the Monday after Thanksgiving and runs to the end of February. Practices are daily from 3 until 5. Matches are usually Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.
Steinert High School's yearbook, The Cresset, is produced annually by a highly dedicated staff of seniors who meet regularly throughout the school year. The student editors and staff design the entire 200 page yearbook with images and copy, documenting the students, staff, events, clubs, activities, athletics, dances, trips, and Steinert High School life for the year.
